Get on board for our Europe 2023 Recruitment Mission, June 17-21, 2023
Looking to recruit workers in the Aerospace, Manufacturing, Transportation or Information Technology sectors? On April 5 and again on the 13th, YES! Winnipeg’s Talent & Workforce Development team presented to groups of employers interested in recruiting talent to jobs in a variety of sectors in Winnipeg.
Space is running out and deadline to register for online participation is Friday, April 21. Contact our team to know more and see how you can benefit from our 360-degree support including logistics, immigration facilitation and much more.
“Our plans for an upcoming European recruitment mission are very well-researched, and we have had previous success in identifying potential talent pools, marketing to candidates, and selling Winnipeg and Manitoba to the world,” said Annie Henry, Senior Manager, Talent & Workforce Development and orientation session presenter. “We are conducting this Germany and Austria-based mission in a hybrid format, which means we will take companies with us as part of our delegation. We also invite Winnipeg employers to participate virtually in the mission, by uploading their job vacancies to the Province of Manitoba’s Work in Manitoba job portal.”
According to Henry, as the competition for skilled employees heats up, employers must be prepared to explore options to compete. That may involve targeting talent pools in other locations. The upcoming mission has two stops – one in Munich, Germany and Vienna, Austria, in June – and the Talent team has two more virtual missions planned for 2023, including Hong Kong and Los Angeles.
To enable the missions, the team is leveraging the Work in Manitoba job portal, a powerful online tool that supports sourcing candidates and demonstrates the breadth of career opportunities that exist in Winnipeg.
The portal, administered by Economic Development Winnipeg, houses more than 17,000 candidate profiles, which are visible to almost 1,100 employers. It also matches local employers with job seekers across Canada and around the world, based on qualifications and career interests.
Here are some things to consider:
- Why should I attend the mission in-person when I can post my jobs to the portal anyway?
The in-person experience definitely has advantages. First, you will have an opportunity to meet face-to-face with candidates you’ve curated through the portal according to the skill sets you require, then selected by you for interviews. It’s important to note that competition for talent is fierce right now, particularly among the industries we’re targeting. We will be reaching out to candidates in 12 neighbouring European countries through our marketing efforts, and driving awareness of the campaign through local community connections. This means you will have new talent pools to draw from. Heads up: we’re running out of spaces, so move quickly!
Plus, when you attend the mission in person, you have an opportunity to share information about your organizational culture; you might even consider arranging for on-site assessments for key competencies, ie, programming, language, math, computer skills, etc; or even to meet candidates more than once, etc. You’ll also meet the YES! Winnipeg talent team, as well as other like-minded employers looking to attract talent.
- How do our new hires get settled in Winnipeg?
The Talent & Workforce Development team is happy to support with the settlement process in Winnipeg. Our team has access to many video assets and marketing materials, including a detailed Settlement Guide. While in Europe, our team will arrange to host candidate orientation sessions so we can introduce potential new residents to life in Winnipeg.
- During the upcoming mission to Europe, is there an opportunity to interview candidates in-person and virtually at the same time?
Yes. Employers will be able to interview potential candidates in-person and virtually simultaneously. As part of our responsibilities in coordinating this event, the Talent team will arrange a site that includes private spaces to conduct interviews, and we will provide access to the technology needed to conduct virtual interviews.
- How else does the Talent team assist in the recruitment process?
The Talent & Workforce Development team will assist in arranging candidate interviews. You can simply send our team an email identifying the candidates you would like to meet, and we can reach out directly on your behalf. Our team will also benefit from knowing if you are successful in hiring a candidate(s) through this process, and any information you would be willing to provide about the experience after the fact.
TIP: When uploading your job postings on the Work in Manitoba portal, always set your Work Eligibility option to OPEN if you’re open to onboard international candidates. This will enable you to cast the widest net possible and the portal will show you candidates from anywhere in the world.
