The world is evolving, and we don’t know exactly what impact COVID-19 will have on our economy. What we do know is that this situation is unprecedented. While there are a lot of unanswered questions, we are working to get the best answers to the questions that matter most to you. We are joining forces with other business leaders, talking to key players across all sectors of our economy and three levels of government to gather and analyze the most current data. We want to make sure we are giving Winnipeg companies the best advice and support to get through this situation.
As an organization, business community, city and province we will collaborate in order to prosper. We are developing strategies so that we can execute quickly to ensure our economy not only recovers but comes out stronger.
What we’re doing
Efforts are underway to set up a roundtable led by the city of Winnipeg to bring together key business leaders in our community. This working group will bring your issues forward to the provincial and federal governments. It will also develop plans to better position our economy for when we come out the other side of this. Here are some other ways we are supporting Winnipeg companies:
- We have developed a COVID-19 Toolkit with resources and available programs for businesses. It includes insights, advice and economic impact analysis from our trusted municipal, provincial and national partners. We will be updating this list on a regular basis.
- We’re encouraging people to buy local and are highlighting local businesses that have adapted their operations to respond to the current environment.
- Economic Development Winnipeg’s resources are being reallocated and our team will focus on understanding and becoming experts in the different economic stimulus programs being introduced that will help local businesses navigate the system. When companies need to access programs and are having problems navigating the system, you can count on us to be here.
- Our market intelligence team is gathering relevant data and analysis to provide the most useful insights for companies and stakeholders. Moving forward, we will share those insights to support businesses as they make key decisions.

One of the defining features of our business community is our connectedness and our ability to come together. We will get through this pandemic and while the worst still may be in front of us, our ability to come together and work together will serve us well on the other side.
Be safe. Look out for each other. And recharge – when this is over there will be work to do!
